About the Lecturer:
Terezinha Fonseca was born in Brazil, and attended the University of Brazil, where she majored in English, earning a B.A. and M.A. with a specialization in Shakespeare and Renaissance Drama. She was a recipient of a Fulbright scholarship at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana where she pursued graduate studies in applied linguistics. She began her teaching career in Brazil as an Associate Professor of English at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In 1980, she moved to the U.S. where she obtained a M.A. in Rhetoric at the University of California at Berkeley and a Ph. D. with distinction from New York University. Her area of specializations are Renaissance Studies, including Shakespeare, and love and sexuality in literature. Since 1990 she has been professor of English at Queensborough Community College at the City University of New York. She has co-authored the fourth edition of Literature Across Cultures with Dr. Sheena Gillespie and Tony Pipolo and has recently been awarded a PSC-CUNY award to study Shakespeare at the New Globe Theater in London. She resides with her husband in New Rochelle, NY and they maintain a residence in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
